Description
[Machine Translation] New album by aus, a solo project of composer/producer YASUHIKO FUKUZONO. Featuring the koto (Japanese stringed instrument) played by Raku Okuno, this beautiful work is a fascinating change of direction for aus. Aus, who has been well received both in Japan and abroad for his thoughtful and delicate craftsmanship, and his engaging sound design for exhibitions and experimental films, has been working mainly with keyboards and electronic sound works. This album, while still electronic in sound, is a fascinating change of direction for Aus, revolving around the sound world of the koto, one of the most distinctive stringed instruments of Japan. The numerous delicate yet rich koto phrases and tones are performed by the extremely talented performer Okuno Raku ( Okuno Eden ). In his commentary, Aus praises the importance of Okuno's playing and his art in this project. The recorded music is designed to balance the koto's subtly shifting attack and shimmering resonant timbre with the tones of the other instruments. The koto's subtle decay and rhyming flexibility are enveloped by sustained synthesizer tones and counterpoint-built piano melodies, creating a flowing ambience with a drawn-in undercurrent and languid, fluid texture. Looking at the contemporary history of the koto, Japanese contemporary music lovers may be interested to note that this work has been used by Tadao Sawai in his realization of Hiroshi Yoshimura's composition "Clouds of Alma" (1979), and the koto performance group Koto Vortex in their album "Works by Hiroshi Yoshimura" ( Hiroshi Yoshimura" ("Works by Hiroshi Yoshimura", 1993). Both of these pioneering works, which attempted to pull the koto out of its tradition and place it in the context of ambient and techno music, also influenced this album. Also influential are the contemporary Japanese works of the 1970s, such as Moroi Makoto's "Spatial Music with Japanese Instruments. Commentary in English and Japanese by Aus is included. Cover design by Mugi Hashimoto, mastering by Makoto Oshiro. Shrink sealed, sticker included.
