[Machine Translation] Marlon Brando's masterpiece! Elia Kazan (A Train Named Desire) and Marlon Brando re-teamed for this social drama that won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor at the 27th Academy Awards. This 1954 Horizon Productions film was directed by Sam Spiegel ("The African Queen"). It was adapted by novelist Bud Schulberg from Malcolm Johnsson's "Crime at the Wharf" (serialized in The Sun newspaper), which depicts the reality of the wharf in Cordova under the control of a corrupt boss, and directed by Elia Kazan of "The Tightrope Man" fame. The film was photographed by French-born Boris Kaufman, with music by Leonard Bernstein. Starring Marlon Brando (Rampage), the film also co-stars newcomer Eva Marie Saint, stage actor Lee J. Cobb (The Road to Conquest), Karl Malden (The Unspeakable Man), Rod Steiger, and others. --The offshoremen working at the docks in Cordova are ruled by the violence of Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb), a vicious boss who runs the saloon. One night, one of the Okinakushi was conspired to murder Johnny. The direct culprit was Johnny's henchman Charlie ( Rod Stiger ), but Charlie's brother Terry ( Marlon Brando ), also a member of Johnny's crew, was also behind the murder. The case is about to be swept under the rug, much to the chagrin of Father Barrie ( Karl Molden ), a righteous dockside priest, and Edie ( Eva Eva Marie Saint ), Joy's sister. The priest is eager to find the culprits, but Johnny and his gang are not happy about it and attack the church. Idi, who was just there, was saved from danger by Terrii. She suspects that Teri may have had something to do with her brother's murder, but she is drawn to him by his unexpected innocence, and their feelings gradually grow closer and closer until Teri's heart leaves Jonii's gang. Then, in broad daylight, another murder of an Okinakashi occurred. Terrii followed Father Baly's advice and confessed the truth about the incident to Idi. Charlyi, under orders from Jonii, threatened Teri'i not to reveal any secrets to him, but he did not listen. Terrii visited Idi at his apartment and made love to him fiercely. But when they narrowly escaped an attack by Johnny and his gang, they found Charlii dead. Outraged, Terrii went to Johnny's bar alone, but he was nowhere to be found. Soon after, Johnny and his gang were questioned in court about the two murders. Teri testified to his crimes. When Teri appeared at the wharf the next morning, he was boycotted by his fellow Okinawans as a coward. Teri'i rushed into Johnny's stronghold and beat him, only to be beaten half to death by his own henchmen. Teri'i, however, stood up with all his might and walked into the midst of the Okinakashi. The workers saw Teri's true courage. Father Baly and Idi looked at Teri'i with bright faces as she walked to her workplace at the head of the workers.
