- UMD (Universal Media Disc) is a new format created by the Sony Group. UMDs for video playback are called UMD Video and UMDs for music playback are called UMD Music.
- UMDs are not restricted for use with the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) player. UMD is an open format set to be included in many future consumer electronics releases.
- You will not be able to play a UMD disc in a standard CD or DVD player.
