¡Live At Donte's 1968
¡Art Pepper Quintet

 Description
[Machine Translation] Fresh Sound Records," a rare masterpiece from the shining masters of jazz history, is finally available for sale! This 2-CD set includes a rare club gig that fills a void in Art Pepper's history. --This is an extremely rare collection of recordings by Art Pepper, who is still regarded as one of the best alto saxophonists in West Coast jazz. His official studio leader albums were lost for 15 years, from 1960's "Intensity" to 1975's "Living Legend," but this 2-CD set was recorded in 1968 at the Dantes jazz club in Hollywood. The band played mainly standard numbers, but the main attraction of this recording is the robust blowing style of the band, which shows the influence of John Coltrane (who died in 1967, the year before the recording), in contrast to the light style of the 50's. The band's performance of the standard tunes is a departure from the light style of the 50's. Members: Art Pepper(as), Joe Romano(ts), Frank Strazzeri(p), Chuck Berghofer(b), Nick Ceroli(d)
