In 1972, the Grateful Dead released a 3-CD live album featuring highlights from their European tour earlier that year. Thirty years have passed since that release. Europe '72 Vol. 2", a sequel to "Europe '72", is now being released. This 2CD release contains selected previously unreleased material from shows in Copenhagen, Paris, London, Wigan, Frankfurt, Munich, and Luxembourg. These rare live recordings were newly mixed from the original 16-track tapes using the latest technology and mastered on HDCD by Grammy Award-winning engineer David Glasser. The album features 20 tracks in total, from live classics such as "Bertha," "Sugaree," and "Playing In The Band" to relatively rare live releases such as "Black-Throated Wind" and Pig Pen's "Chinatown Shuffle. The cover was designed by legendary San Francisco graphic artist Stanley Mouse (who worked with Anton Kelly under the name Kelly/ Mouse Studio), who has created numerous Grateful Dead album and tour posters, including the artwork for "Europe '72". Since the heyday of psychedelic music, they have been one of the best improvised live bands in the U.S. and have developed a worldwide following of enthusiastic fans called "Dead Heads," and can be considered the originators of the modern jam band craze.
