 Description
On June 15, 1963, "Ue wo Muite Aruko," written by Rokusuke Ei, composed by Hachidai Nakamura, and sung by Kyu Sakamoto, was called "SUKIYAKI" and reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of this historic accomplishment, the "Ue wo Muite arukou/ SUKIYAKI" related items are included. SHM-CD 2-CD set "689 SONGBOOK". DISC-1 contains 17 songs, including 16 songs released by the "Roku Hachi Kyu Trio" from 1961 to 1967, plus "Senobi" which was not recorded at that time. DISC-2 is a reissue of "689" released in 1979. It was the first concept album by Rokusuke Ei, Hachidai Nakamura, and Kyu Sakamoto. The DVD "Yume de Aimasho" is a 30-minute variety program on NHK, "Yume de Aimasho," which was broadcast live from Hibiya Hall, Hibiya Studio 1, every Saturday at 10 p.m. from April 8, 1961, to April 2, 1966. NHK Enterprize's digital technology has up-converted the broadcast footage from that time, and the audio tracks have also been re-mastered and will be included on DVD. The DVD will also include a booklet that explains how and why "Ue wo Muite arukou" reached No. 1 in the U.S. from the perspective of 2023, including interviews with people involved at the time, as well as a wealth of valuable photos and materials from that time, including jackets from various countries.
