¡Golijov: Ainadamar
¡Robert Spano (conductor)

 Description
[Machine Translation] Domestic release of the second album by Osvaldo Golijov, an Eastern European Jewish contemporary composer born in Argentina in 1960! Winner of two Grammy Awards (Best Opera Recording and Best Classical Contemporary Work) in February 2007, the one-act opera Ainadamar was composed in 2003 and revised in 2005. The idea centers on the tragic death of Spanish writer Federico Garcia Lorca, who was gunned down by fascist soldiers at a fountain called the Fountain of Tears in the early days of the Spanish Civil War. The title role is played by Golijov's muse, Dawn Upshaw. There are plenty of whiffs of Spanish music. Far from the esoteric image of contemporary classical music, it creates a unique worldview that is easy to relate to and easy to listen to. Includes bilingual lyrics. Recorded in Atlanta, November 2005
