 Description
[Machine Translation] [ECM in the 21st Century] 2024 is the 55th anniversary of ECM! ECM ("Edition of Contemporary Music"), one of Europe's leading jazz labels, was founded in Munich, Germany in 1969 by Manfred Eicher, a charismatic producer of rare talent. The founding concept of the label was "the next most beautiful music after silence. The label has attracted many fans around the world with its transparent sound, clear sound quality, and sophisticated and beautiful jacket design, which are distinctly different from other labels. The label has produced many jazz classics, including Keith Jarrett's "The Cologne Concert" (1975), Chick Corea's "Return to Forever" (1972), and Pat Metheny's "Bright Size Life" (1976). In 1984, he broadened his genre of music to include classical music. In 2023, at the age of 80, Eicher will continue to record more than 20 new works a year, making him one of the most active composers in the pursuit of music. In conjunction with the release of the new ECM Revisits series to commemorate the 55th anniversary of ECM, the label is releasing an encore pressing of its ECM in the 21st Century series, originally released in 2022. This series introduces the ECM of the present, with a focus on artists who are currently active at the forefront of the field. This is the 2013 ECM debut album by Aaron Parks, a pianist/composer who joined Terence Blanchard's band at the age of 18 and has since been sought after by many of the leading musicians. This solo piano work is a reimagining of traditional traditional folk songs by Bartok, and a solo piano work that he says was a revelation, a record that feels vulnerable and naked, like Paul Bley's "Open, to Love" album, where he plays the piano just for himself. There is almost nothing prearranged; it was all improvised sessions in the studio. Recorded in the warm, clear acoustics of Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts, with low lighting, the music is extremely personal and intimate. It is as if Parks himself is whispering the melody. [Recorded at Mechanics Hall, Worcester, Massachusetts, December 2012
