¡Mendelsshon Discoveries
¡Riccardo Chailly (conductor)
Description
[Machine Translation] Commemorative disc for the Gewandhaus Orchestra's visit to Japan! The Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by Chailly, is scheduled to tour Japan from the end of October to the beginning of November, and this album, recorded live in January 2009, focuses on Mendelssohn's unknown works, celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth this year. The Gewandhaus Orchestra premiered his Symphony No. 3 "Scotland" in 1842, and it was dedicated to Queen Victoria when Mendelssohn came to England in the same year. The London version was revised in 1842, and the concert was a great success, but Mendelssohn made further changes, resulting in the final version that is widely known to the public today. The London version has 97 more bars than the final version, and the closing passage of the first movement is quite different from the final version. A sketch of the London version is included in the margin of this album. Piano Concerto No. 3 in E minor was completed by Marcello Bufalini in 2006 based on the unfinished sketch. Only Prosseda is permitted to perform it as a soloist, and he gave the Japanese premiere of this work in October 2008 with the New Japan Philharmonic. Hebrides" is the overture to the overture known as "Fingal's Cave," based on the Roman manuscript composed in 1830 and revised by Christopher Hogwood, who is also the conductor.
