Description
Director Fred Zinnemann's ("Julia," "The Day of the Jackal") multiple Oscar-winning film (including one for Zinnemann as director, and one for Frank Sinatra as a supporting actor) is based on the bestselling novel by James Jones. Set at a military base in "pre-war" Hawaii in 1941, it depicts a drama of romance and impending war with a superb cast that includes Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra, Jack Warden, and Ernest Borgnine for whom this movie presented one of his earliest villainous roles.
