¡LE MOZART NOIR[DVD+CD]
¡Jean Lamon (conductor), The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra
Description
[Machine Translation] Saint-Georges was a violinist and composer active in 18th century France. His father was a plantation owner, and his mother was a Wolof woman who worked as a slave on a plantation. He studied violin with Leclerc and composition with Gosek, was concertmaster of the Concert de la Loge Oranpique, an orchestra active in France at the time, and was a great success, including the commissioning of the Paris Symphony from Haydn, but his career was cut short when he was forced to leave the royal orchestra of Versailles by Louis XVI. However, when he was nominated as the director of the royal orchestra of Versailles by Louis XVI, he had to give up the position due to severe racial discrimination. At the outbreak of the French Revolution, he led 1,000 black soldiers into battle, but was eventually forced to leave the army. The film carefully unravels the tumultuous life of Saint-Georges, who is called "Black Mozart" because of his classical style, while also including the aforementioned episodes. The Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra is in charge of the music, which includes Saint-Georges' masterpiece "Violin Concerto" as well as works by his teachers Leclerc and Gosek. The film is very interesting. The accompanying CD contains all of the music used in the film.
