Description

A romantic journey of a bewitching Okuni and a beautiful man, Gohei. --Oguni (Michiyo Kigure) is on a journey with her servant Gohei (Yumaemon Otani) to avenge her husband Iori's (Jun Tasaki) death. Tomonojo ( Satoshi Yamamura ), who had taken Iori by blackmail, had once been in love with Okuni, but had left her when his parents decided to marry Iori. Okuni and Gohei continue their journey to find Tomonojo. Oguni suffers a leg injury and falls ill, but Gohei takes good care of her. Since its premiere at the Imperial Theatre in 1922, directed by Junichiro Tanizaki, "Okuni and Gohei" is said to be the most frequently performed of all of his plays. The film depicts the conflicts between the rules of a samurai family and the emotions of a man and a woman.
