The Japan Science Fiction Grand Prize-winning novel by Tomihiko Morimi of "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl" has finally been adapted to an anime film! Directed by Yuyasu Ishida of "Fumiko's Confession" and "Aoshi Shigure". The screenplay is by Makoto Ueda, who has written many Morimi works such as "Yonjohan Shinwa Taikei" and "Yoru wa Tanshi Arukkeyo Otome". The voice of the main character is played by the up-and-coming young actress KITAKANA. The film also features Academy Award-winning actress Yu Aoi, popular voice actors Rie Kugimiya and Megumi Hani, as well as Hidetoshi Nishijima and Naoto Takenaka, all of whom make up the supporting cast. --Aoyama, a fourth grader, is a boy who learns about the world one day at a time and records what he learns in a notebook. He is smart and studies hard every day, so he thinks to himself, "I will be a great person in the future. What is most interesting to Aoyama is his sister at the dental clinic he goes to. She is friendly, big-breasted, free-spirited, and somewhat mysterious. Aoyama earnestly continued his daily research on his sister. One day, just before summer vacation the following month, a penguin appears in the suburban town where Aoyama-kun lives. Amidst the commotion of the townspeople, the penguins suddenly appeared and disappeared in a residential area without a sea...where did they come from and where did they go...? Aoyama starts researching the Penguin Highway to solve the mystery of the penguins, and witnesses a Coke can transformed into a penguin by his sister's careless throw. A special booklet (including unpublished illustrations and newly recorded interviews with director Yasuyasu Ishida, character designer/director Yojiro Arai, and assistant director Yoh Watanabe) is included in the package.
