¡Yosei Gorasu (Gorath)
¡Japanese Movie
Description
This sci-fi disaster film can be called Toho's answer to George Pal's "When Worlds Collide," whose concept has been recapitulated in such later films as "Meteor," "Deep Impact," and "Armageddon." Several factors distinguish this film from the others. First of all, it's directed by the great Ishiro Honda of "Godzilla" (the original film) fame. The solution to save our planet is quite original. Instead of destroying the rogue planet (called Gorath) on a collision course with Earth, The scientists decide to change Earth's orbit out of Gorath's path, since the planet's mass is 6,000 times the mass of the Earth. In the tradition of other classic Toho sci-fi/monster films, this original Japanese version has a giant walrus attacking the Antarctic base where the rockets are being built.
