¡MOTHRA
¡Japanese Movie

 Description
Like Godzilla (1954) and Rodan (1956) before it, Toho's 1961 movie has a strong anti-nuclear war message. The brilliant Ishiro Honda directed this, following his other Toho outings including the two aforementioned films, "The Mysterians," "Baran" and "Uchu Daisenso (Battle in Outer Space)." A scientific expedition crew visits a Polynesian island where a group of shipwreck survivors are found. The island was used for atomic tests but the survivors turn out to be miraculously free of radiation effects. It looks like they were protected by something given to them by the Island's natives whose existence was obviously neglected by those who carried the atomic experiment. The expedition crew encounters a pair of fairie like pocket-sized twin sisters (played by real-life singing sisters, The Peanuts) who are abducted by the expedition leader. Unbeknownst to him, the sweet looking little women are actually high priestesses telepathically connected to the title character, the gigantic moth worshipped as a god(dess) by the island natives. When the kidnapped priestesses are brought to Japan and start singing with their beautiful voices, Mothra seeks them out, and crawls around (instead of stomping) the city of Tokyo, wreaking havoc all the same.
