¡Denso Ningen (THE SECRET OF THE TELEGIAN)
¡Japanese Movie

 Description
Of all of the films in Toho's "Mutant" series, this film suffered the most in its transition to America. Shot in color, it was shown in black & white with its excellent letterboxed image severely cropped for TV. Marking Jun Fukuda's directorial debut, the story features the series' usual mix of sci-fi and gangsters. Three ex-soldiers have become rich by stealing gold at the end of the war. Loyal Corporal Sudo is left for dead by his comrades, who receive death threats from him 15 years. It seems Sudo has happened upon a teleportation machine that he uses to baffle the police and murder his betrayers. Though mostly a drama, the sparse special effects sequences by Eiji Tsuburaya are some of his best. Fukuda would go on to replace Ishiro Honda on many of the Godzilla films of the late sixties and early seventies. Special Features include the theatrical trailer, behind-the-scenes featurette, and audio commentary by Tadano Nakamaru.
