 Description
[Machine Translation] A sad fate, or the flow of clouds fading in the wilderness? A woman's love for another woman's life is in flux. Yukiko (Takamine Hideko), a typist posted to wartime Indochina, meets Tomioka (Mori Masayuki), an engineer for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, knowing that he has a wife, and they begin a relationship. When the war ends, Tomioka says he is leaving his wife and returns to Japan. Yukiko follows him to Tomioka's house, but Tomioka is not divorced. Yukiko leaves Tomioka and becomes the lover of an American soldier. They eventually get back together. In the life of the main character Yukiko Koda, there is the transience of human life, and the pathos of human life. I want to depict this deeply. Director Mikio Naruse, who made this film, had previously adapted Fumiko Hayashi's works such as Meshi, Inazuma, Tsuma, and Yonagiku, and considered his fifth film, Floating Clouds, to be the culmination of Fumiko's literary works. It won the Grand Prize at the 10th Mainichi Film Concours.
