¡ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK

Description
John Carpenter's cult sci-fi classic preceded the other '80s futuristic action thrillers like The Road Warrior, Blade Runner and The Terminator. Carpenter teamed up with Kurt Russell for the second time (since TV movie "Elvis") and proved that Russell could play a formidable action hero. Up till this film he was known as the "Disney Kid" by studio executives. The film stars a cast of some of the greatest character actors ever: Donald Pleasence, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau (former Mrs. Carpenter) and Isaac Hayes, the musician-composer-actor who is now known as the Chef from South Park. Frank Doubleday, who played the "White Warlord" in Carpenter's excellent "Assault on Precinct 13" plays one of Hayes' henchmen named Romero. There's another character named Cronenberg. (Where are Hooper, King and Barker?) The young James Cameron worked on the film among the special fx staff. Great score by Carpenter.
