Description

The band was devoted to Duke Ellington and played with many great players, but it is also known for discovering new players such as the Moderns, Neal Hefty, and Buddy DeFranco. Les Brown was a well-liked member of the Miller Band, and was so tightly knit that he was considered a permanent member of the band. R. Flanagan, who was not a member of the Miller Band, but revived the Miller sound as an arranger. Four bands from the early 50's are introduced, all of whom were active as tenor saxophonists and unique vocalists.
