¡Mussorgsky: Orchestral Works & Without Sun
¡Evgeny Svetlanov (conductor)

 Description
[Machine Translation] Svetlanov's masterful performance of Mussorgsky's timeless avant-garde style is magnificently depicted on a grand scale. In his later years, Svetlanov began recording with the Russian National Symphony Orchestra for RCA as part of the "Russian Five" anthology project, which was discontinued after five CDs had been recorded. The album is the last recording of Mussorgsky's work, which is rich in weight and ahead of its time, and includes his early works such as "Scherzo" and "Symphonic Interludes in Classical Style," orchestral pieces from "Boris Godunov" and "Khovanshchina," and his own arrangement of songs for orchestra, "Without Sunlight," which is a collection of songs that expresses overwhelming despair. The performance is full of the charms of Mussorgsky, who was ahead of his time. Unlike the Russian recordings, this recording was made during a session in Metz, France in 1994, so the unique tone and sound of the orchestra is captured in its entirety. This is the first release in Japan.
