¡Seppuku[Blu-ray]
¡Japanese Movie
Description
Reissue in Blu-ray. Directed by Masaki Kobayashi (who co-wrote the screenplay for "Dora-heita" with Kon Ichikawa, Keisuke Kinoshita, and Akira Kurosawa), the film stars the brilliant Tatsuya Nakadai (Kurosawa's "Kagemusha," "Ran") as an aging ronin (masterless samurai) who seeks to commit harakiri (also called "seppuku," or ritual disembowelment) in the house of a warlord. However, his true intent is gradually revealed as the story unfolds, building to a slam-bang action climax. It's a tragic tale of revenge that uncovers the hypocrisy of 17th century feudal Japan, focusing on the Samurai family destroyed by a clan that symbolizes the cruel behaviour of the period. Based on a novel by Yasuhiko Takiguchi, This is definitely one of the best Samurai films ever made.
