Description
[Machine Translation] Mikako Tabe, one of the hottest young actresses of today who has appeared in such high-profile films as "Yamada Taro Monogatari" and "Yoru no Picnic," has broken her silence to release a DVD of the film in which she starred at the age of 15! This is a human drama adapted from the novel "Maburai no Shima" by children's literature author Hiroko Takeuchi. Director Tetsuya Matsushima depicts a reclusive girl's rebirth as she comes into contact with the nature and residents of Iriomotejima Island. The film co-stars Jun Fubuki as the mother and Kohei Takeda as "Kenmun," a young man who talks with Hiromi via e-mail. The film is also notable for being planned and performed by Kensaku Morita. --Hiromi is bullied at school and begins to close her mind and retreat to her room. Hiromi lives with her grandfather Taizo and grandmother Yoriko. Neither of them know anything about the bullying. Her father Akihiro, a photographer, died in an accident when he went to the sea to take pictures of whales, and her mother Kimiko left home when Hiromi was two years old. The only person she could talk to was her e-mail friend Kenmun, whom she met on the Internet. Kenmun is an instructor at a divers' store on Iriomote Island. The island happened to be where her mother lived after she left Hiromi. Hiromi ran out of her room without telling her grandparents in order to meet Kenmun and her mother.
