 Description
Regular-priced reissue. Undoubtedly, this Roman Polanski masterpiece is the best noir-thriller of the 70's (if you don't count Taxi Driver which is a totally different film), and undoubtedly it's the only film in history in which the director cuts the leading actor's nose with a sharp knife. Of course that happens in the film and not in real life, but Polanski's own cameo appearance as the knife wielding thug ("Know what happens to nosy fellas?") and the image of Jack Nicholson later with a bandaged nose are only some of the many memorable things about the film. Polanski's direction is crisp and perfect, and so are the performances from Nicholson, Faye Dunaway (or Done-away, as it happens in the film) and John Huston, and the editing is tight, but the most important element could be the score by Jerry Goldsmith which gives just the right atmosphere on each scene. Oh... and I love that brilliant Chinese-American actor named James Hong (who plays Dunaway's butler here). He must have made ga-zillion movies in his long career!
