Description
[Machine Translation] This is the directorial debut of Charlie Kaufman, the popular screenwriter of "The Malkovich Hole" and other films. Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a strong performance as the main character. Playwright Cayden Cotard lives in New York City with his painter wife Adele and daughter Olive. His plays are well received and it seems like smooth sailing, but Adele is disappointed with his lackluster stage direction, and finally leaves for Berlin with Olive. Kayden drowns his loneliness in the company of Hazel, a receptionist at the theater, but he is unable to develop a relationship with her because of his lingering feelings for Adele. One day, however, a turning point occurs to this dull man. One day, he receives the news that he has won the MacArthur Fellow Award (also known as the "Genius Award"). Cayden then comes up with an outlandish plan to use all of his prize money. He decided to use all of his winnings to create an "alternate New York" in his own mind, in a huge warehouse. He tells the assembled actors to "build and recreate their own lives in the New York of the stage," and the preparations proceed....
