 Description
[Machine Translation] The young men who threw themselves into the human torpedo "Kaiten". Why did they volunteer for a mission from which they could never return? The vivid war drama "The Sea without Exit" starring Ebizo Ichikawa, which questions the meaning of life, is now available on DVD! Director Kiyoshi Sasabe, who also directed "Half a Confession", adapted the novel of the same title by Hideo Yokoyama, the author of "Half a Confession", to this war drama. The screenplay, written by master filmmaker Yoji Yamada and Motobumi Tomikawa ("Eel"), two of the biggest names in the Japanese film industry, vividly depicts the passionate lives of young men caught up in the midst of war. The film stars Ichikawa Ebizo in his first starring role. In April 1945, four young men on a top-secret mission board a submarine. Japan's defeat is now imminent, and the last secret weapon, the "Kaiten," holds out hope for a comeback. It was a small submarine with a capacity of one person and no escape device. The crew boarded the submarine with a large amount of explosives, piloted it by themselves, and launched a suicide bombing attack on the enemy ship. The bonus disc includes a talk by Ebizo Ichikawa on "The Sea Without Exit," a preview screening at the Kabuki-za Theater (August 28, 2006), a video distributed by Yahoo! Includes a guidebook and autographed postcard.
