¡Liszt: Faust Symphonie Transcription For Organ
¡Hansjorg Albrecht (organ)

 Description
[Machine Translation] At the end of 1830, his friend Berlioz recommended Liszt to read Goethe's play "Faust". The story so fascinated Liszt that he decided to set it to music, and a number of works based on the "Faust legend" were born. The "Faust Symphony," conceived in the 1840s, is considered to be Liszt's greatest work. Rather than faithfully reproducing the story, the symphony uses an open-ended form in which the characters and personalities of Faust, Grachen, and Mephistopheles are figuratively portrayed through eight themes. Although the work was completed in 1854, Liszt made numerous revisions to it, each time augmenting the instrumentation and adding a male chorus to the third movement, until it was finally completed in 1880. In this album, Albrecht himself arranged and performed the first draft of the 1854 version for organ. The simple sound of the organ, before the addition of brass instruments other than horns, percussion, harp, and male chorus, is nothing less than the organ itself, and we hope you will enjoy the richly featured Gasteig Kreis organ, built in 1985 and remodeled in 2004 and 2010.
