Jethro Tull's sixth studio album "A PASSION PLAY" has been reborn as an "Extended Performance" version with the addition of "Phantom Sound". The album is now available as an "Extended Performance" version. When Jethro Tull began work on this album in 1972, his previous album "Thick As A Brick" was receiving high acclaim and selling out large arenas, and he was on a roll. To record this album, for the first time in their five-year career, the band entered the studio with the same lineup as on their previous album. The first requirement for the studio was that it be overseas, and the second was that it be a reputable and well-known location. They chose Chateau d'Herouville, an 18th century chateau near Paris, France. It was here that Elton John recorded "Honky Chateau" and Pink Floyd recorded "Obscured By Clouds," and it had studio facilities as well as living quarters. It seemed like the perfect place to record. However, the decision was not a good one. First, there were equipment problems in the studio. And then there were the living facilities: they slept in a dormitory-like place and were each given a private room, albeit a modest one. However, the beds were infested with "ticks," uninvited guests, and to top it all off, the band members all contracted food poisoning from the food served to them. Naturally, the band decided to return to the UK and abandon the hour or so of music they had recorded in France. Rather than rekindle their passion for something they had worked so hard on, they decided to create something new from scratch. The result is "A Passion Play" (the title means "Passion Play"). This 45-minute progressive rock piece was a complex mix of intricate odd time signatures, esoteric lyrics, and everything in between. With only nine days to go before the next tour, the band members felt the pressure to finish the album as soon as possible. The concept of the album evolved from the idea that decisions and decisions can haunt us until after death. It contains the age-old themes of good vs. evil and God vs. the devil. The "Extended Performance" version of the 2CD+2DVD release includes the original album and the once-defunct sessions at the Chateau d'Herouville. Both recordings, as on previous Jethro Tull reissues, feature the latest mixes by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) in both 5.1 surround and stereo mixes. Also included on one DVD is a video clip from "The Story Of The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles," as well as pre- and post-show footage from the 1973 Passion Play tour! The booklet also includes a history of the 1973 tour, liner notes by Martin Webb on the recording of the album, comments on the latest mix by Steven Wilson, and a story about the album cover shoot by Jane Eve, the dancer who appears on the cover. The booklet also contains a number of valuable data and documents, such as the liner notes on the recording of the album by Stephen Wilson, comments on the latest mix by Steven Wilson, the story behind the album cover photo shoot by Jane Eve, the dancer who appears on the cover, and comments by Chris Amson, the sound staff of the tour. *CD 1: A Passion Play (Steven Wilson's latest stereo mix) *CD 2: The Chateau d'Herouville Sessions (Steven Wilson's latest stereo mix) *DVD 1 (audio & video): "A Passion Play" in 5.1 DTS, AC3 Dolby Digital Surround Sound and PCM 96/24 PMC Stereo mix.
