The album was recorded at her studio in Nashville, Tennessee, with longtime collaborator Buddy Miller as producer. Recording in Nashville had unexpected results. Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and other guests such as Jacob Dylan and Stewart Duncan (all of whom live in Nashville) responded to Buddy's call to join him on the album.
