Description
[Machine Translation] Since their debut in 2006, the band's second to fourth albums have topped the U.S. album charts three times in a row, and they have also won two Grammy Awards for "Best Alternative Album". The album was produced by Ezra Koenig (Vo/Gt) and longtime collaborator Ariel Rechtscheid, and was recorded in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo, taking five years to complete. Ezra wrote the majority of the lyrics between 2019 and 2020, and from there the lyrics and melodic structure were carefully reworked, resulting in the band's boldest and most melodic work to date. The cover photo was taken by a photographer from New York. The cover photo is one from a series of photographs taken by New York photographer=Steven Siegel in an abandoned subway station in New Jersey in 1988. The newspaper in the photo is actually the May 1, 1988 edition of the New York Daily News, which reported the "Aloha Airlines Flight 243 plane crash" in which the roof of the plane came off. The headline, "ONLY GOD WAS ABOVE US" by a survivor was used as the title of this album.
