[Machine Translation] Armenian-born Tigran Hamasyan is one of the hottest pianist/composers in the contemporary jazz scene. AN ANCIENT OBSERVER, his sophomore effort on Nonsuch, is his first in almost two years, since 2015's MOCKROOT. The songs on the album were written by him over a period of four years, some of which are tightly composed and structured from beginning to end, while others leave room for improvisation. In these songs, as in his previous works, Tigran's wide range of influences can be seen, from baroque dance to hip-hop to the music of his native Armenia. In terms of sound, many of the songs incorporate vocals and choruses, and pedals are connected to synthesizers. The musical reflections on history and modernity gained in his homeland of Armenia.
