The Complete Masters, which includes all previously unreleased takes and overdubs from the two sessions, is finally available after 50 years. !!!! On December 9, 1964, John Coltrane and his quartet (Elvin Jones, Jimmy Garrison and McCoy Tyner) entered the legendary Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey to record "The Complete Masters" -- a four-part album that includes the first two tracks of the iconic recording session. The Love Supreme" -- a four-part suite that has influenced countless musicians and reached many music fans throughout the jazz world and across generations, and a legitimate classic. And, although it is not widely known, the quartet plus Archie Shepp and second bassist Dr. Art Davis returned to the studio the next day to record the opening part of the suite. The entirety of those two days is finally unleashed in this album. All takes, overdubs, and studio chats are included! The film uses reels from John Coltrane's personal collection, but the original recordings were made at Rudy Van Gelder Studios, and the details by Rudy Van Gelder and new liners provide a written account of these lost and fantastic sessions. This release marks the beginning of VERVE's 60th anniversary, which will be celebrated next year, and will be followed in 2016 by the release of a catalog including Impulse! This is the first time that all of the recordings that exist will be made available, and the full story of "The Greatest Love" will be revealed. The 2002 deluxe edition of the album also includes a few songs from the second session, but this is the first time that the entire "Love Above All" album is included. The 2CD version includes seven previously unreleased performances from the original album and two previously unreleased tracks from Coltrane's own two-track plus two sessions. The 32-page booklet includes an essay by Ashley, Kahn, a noted producer and instructor and author of "A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album," and a rare photo album of the sessions. The SUPER DELUXE EDITION is a 3-CD set that includes the 2-CD version above plus a bonus disc. The bonus disc includes a live recording of the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in July 1965, along with details of the show and a personal introduction by Carlos Santana!
