[Machine Translation] The first Japanese translation of the "Biography of the High Priests," a basic source for the history of Buddhism in China. Buddhism, which was introduced to China during the Later Han Dynasty, reached its height of prosperity in the Six Dynasties period. Huihuang Liang compiled the biographies of approximately 500 high priests (257 in the main biography and more than 200 in the supplementary biography) during the first 450 years. This volume contains translations of sutras by Hatomarashi, Hoken, and others, as well as translator's commentaries.
