¡Animation AKIRA Layouts & Key Frames3 (OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 25)
¡Otomo Katsuhiro
Description
AKIRA" was released in theaters in 1988 and revolutionized the world of animation beyond the realm of manga. This book is the third (and final) volume of a three-volume compilation of the huge amount of layouts, original drawings, and revisions used in the production of the film, all drawn by the original author and director Katsuhiro Otomo himself. A layout is a blueprint of the animation process that depicts the information necessary for each of the scenes that make up the main animation film. In addition to the original drawings and layouts of "Part C (continuation from the previous volume) and Part D" of the four parts (A, B, C, and D) that make up the entire film, the book also includes rare reproductions of celluloid images of famous scenes that were created based on the original layouts. Following the previously published "Storyboards 1 & 2," this book reveals in detail the production process of these still cutting-edge expressions. The film version of "AKIRA" was created through a thorough process in which the "layout," which depicts the backgrounds and character movements for each cut, was directed and revised by the animation director, art director, and even director Otomo himself. The uncompromising quality of the screen work can be experienced by simply flipping through the pages, one by one, as the scenes move sequentially. Like the first two volumes, this volume is almost entirely printed in color, and contains the largest number of reproduced celluloid images of all three volumes. The fold-out large-format pages are also the largest to date, with a total of approximately 675 pages. As the volume is complete, a "Commentary" by the author is also included at the end of the book. Layouts & Key Frames" in the book title means "Layouts & Original Drawings" in English. This book has a new structure, in which the reader can enjoy reading the animation movements, as in "flipping from the end of the book to the beginning of the book like a flip-book, and from the beginning of the book to the end of the book.
