 Description
[Machine Translation] The "Pikigo-Waka-shu" is the third collection of poems compiled by imperial decree by Hanayama-in at the beginning of the 11th century, when the culture of the aristocracy was at its peak. It was a gift from Michinaga to his daughter Akiko, and is recorded in the Murasaki Shikibu Nikki (Murasaki Shikibu Diary). Many of the poems in the collection are composed during poetry contests, such as "Haru no uta" ("Spring is just about to rise") and "Yoshino no yama mo mo hazumemi ni miyuran" ("This morning the mountains of Yoshino are hazy and the sky is clear"). Of the approximately 1,350 waka poems, representative poets and poems have been excerpted and carefully explained. This is the easiest introductory book to waka poetry, with a column explaining the techniques and historical background of waka poetry.
