 Description
[Machine Translation] This is a rakugo story based on a visit to Ise, which became so popular during the peaceful Edo period that it was said, "Once in your life, you must go to Ise. Ise is located to the east of Osaka, so the story is also known as "A Journey to the East. The story is about two young men, Kiroku and Seihachi, who get along well with each other and travel from Osaka to Ise Shrine through Nara, over the Suzuka Pass to Omi and Kyoto, and back to Osaka. Ise Sangu Shinbai" is a generic name for independent stories that occur along the journey, and has not been performed in its entirety for more than a hundred years. Since some of the stories have been lost over time, only about two-thirds of the stories have survived, and although it is a story about a trip to Ise, it lacks a scene in which the audience visits the Ise Shrine. The author, who is also known as a collector of materials and documents related to rakugo, has meticulously researched the story and restored it to its original form, adding some creative elements to bring it back to its original 22 performances.
