Description
[Machine Translation] Osamu Dazai's "private novels" depict the "dark fate" of a man born into an old family. In June 1909, Shuji Tsushima, a.k.a. Dazai Osamu, was born in Kitatsugaru-gun, Aomori Prefecture, and later lived far away in Tokyo, where he felt a longing for home. Dazai made his debut in the literary world with his first novel, "Memories," which was written as a "suicide note" about his childhood in Tsugaru. He followed this with "Kiarairai," about his return to his hometown after a decade of disagreement with his brother; "Hometown," about his return to his hometown upon receiving news of his mother's critical condition; and "Tsugaru," about a trip to Tsugaru amidst the impending crisis of the times.
