 Description
[Machine Translation] This book examines the relationship between nation-state and literature by looking at the process of forced transition from etni to nation-state in the process of colonial rule and the literary and cultural phenomena that emerge from the modern world of nation-states formed from the crucible of empire and colony. Eight scholars of Caribbean, African English- and French-speaking literature and culture, American literature, Japanese postwar literature, and Arab and Francophone literature will gather to examine the various aspects of literature, language, and ethnic traditions as means of resistance and restructuring that have driven a wedge between nation-states, and the traces of colonial rule from the 18th century to today. The project also looks at the traces of colonial domination from the 18th century to the present day from a cross-regional perspective. This is a groundbreaking attempt in literary studies to propose a new understanding of identity and nation today.
