Johnson, the jazz trombone god who became known as the creator of original bebop in the 40's. Selected from two nights of performances at Ronnie Scott's in London in 1964. He began his career as an arranger when he met Benny Carter. He worked with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, and others, and toured as a member of the Miles Davis Group in the early 60's. This recording was made during his peak years. Included are "Bye Bye Blackbird," "Dead Leaves," "March of the Saints," and eight other songs. The band consists of Stan Tracy (piano), Malcolm Cecil (bass), and Tony Crombie (drums).
