¡Young Slava . . . Wakaki Hi no Rostropovich (Japanese Title)
¡Classical V.A.
Description
[Machine Translation] Mstislav Rostropovich, a native of Azerbaijan, is one of the most famous cellists of the 20th century. He was active not only as a soloist but also as a conductor, actively performing cello and orchestral works by Shostakovich and Prokofiev, with whom he had a close friendship, and is well known for his efforts to promote their works not only in Russia but also throughout the world. All of the recordings in this box were made before 1967, when Rostropovich was in his "younger" years, and some of them are premiered by Rostropovich (this is the world premiere recording of Britten's cello concerto). The title "SLAVA" is a nickname for Rostropovich, derived from the Russian word for "glory" and part of his first name.
