¡At The Showcase: Live In Chicago
¡Sun Ra
Description
[Machine Translation] Unreleased live recordings of Sun Ra, the one and only artist who continued to play his own unique cosmic Jazz, are now available on CD. Originally recorded live at Joe Segal's Jazz Showcase in Chicago, IL on February 21, 1976 (CD2) and November 4 & 10, 1977 (CD1). The 1976 live recordings were researched and edited by Sun Ra researcher Michael D. Anson, transferred from the original tape reels, and officially released by excavation contractor Zev Feldman, Elemental Music, and the Sun Ra Trust. The '76 show featured the familiar alto saxophone of Marshall Allen, the trumpet of then new member Ahmed Abdullah, and other horns, and the '77 performance surprisingly (!) included the swing-era standard "Rose". In 1977, they surprisingly (!) tried their hand at a swing-era standard, "Rose Room". Actual concert photos by photographer Hal Rummel, liner notes by James Corbett, Michael Weiss, Marshall Allen, Thurston Moore, Jack DeJohnette, David Murray, Dave Burrell, and Matthew Shipp, Includes a gorgeous booklet with comments by Amina Claudine Myers, Reggie Workman, and others. Includes Japanese obi and commentary.
