Description
[Machine Translation] Alleys, cars on main streets, people waiting for trains on station platforms, underpasses... The desolate streets of 1970s New York are overlaid with Akerman's own voice reading a letter written by his mother. The public locations, shown in fixed and traveling shots, are blended with the loving words read aloud, occasionally drowned out by the sound of cars. The loneliness of the city and the distance between distant families lie with elegant emotion in this film ("Letter"). Babette Mangold, who directed many of Akerman's films in the 1970s, has documented dancers' performances on film, directed The Sky On Location herself, and is also known as a talented photographer. Includes explanatory leaflet and postcard.
