¡Shostakovich : Suite On Finnish Theme (Kangas / Ostrobothnian.Co)
¡V.A.
Description
[Machine Translation] Shostakovich composed the "Finnish Suite" in 1939 on commission from the Leningrad Military Orchestra, but it has been missing since then, and is not listed in the work list. The draft was recently discovered and recorded for the first time in the world. It consists of seven pieces, two of which are instrumental and five of which are vocal. All are based on Finnish folk songs, but Shostakovich's unique arrangements are very interesting. The coupling is a chamber symphony for string orchestra arranged by Rudolf Barshai from the String Quartet.
