 Description
[Direct Transfer Series] The "Direct Transfer" series was launched in 2006 by Goodies, a CD shop specializing in classical music. Created from a desire to let more people experience the excitement of hearing records "as they really are," the label produces its own reissues, earning a reputation for a vivid, lifelike sound that feels distinct from conventional reissues. These two titles were released by King International in January 2025, but went out of production after only a short time, leading to many requests for a re-release. Mastering is handled by Tadaatsu Atarashi, using a system he perfected over many years: a variable equalizer built around directly heated triodes, adjusted disc by disc to bring out the best sound quality realistically achievable. It is often said that the true sound of such records is, unfortunately, difficult to fully capture on typical reissue CDs. By keeping the process as short and direct as possible, "Direct Transfer" delivers the vivid impact of the original sound, and the series will continue going forward. Direct Transfer from the "phantom" Continental first pressing, Enescu's supreme artistry brought back in striking clarity. Reissued from the ultra-rare U.S. Continental CLP-104/6, originally released in 1950, the 200th anniversary of Bach's death. In his very late years, Enescu poured his heart and soul into this project. Though acclaimed by musicians and discerning record collectors, it disappeared from the catalog within just a few years and became one of the most prized collector's items among early classical LPs. This transfer is sourced from an original pressing different from the one used for Atarashi's earlier reissue work at Nippon Columbia, allowing the full scope of Enescu's art to re-emerge in its true form. Wilhelm Furtwangler, conductor.
