 Description
[Machine Translation] Ingmar Bergman, one of the greatest masters of Scandinavian cinema and one of the greatest masters of the 20th century, is now available on DVD in a digitally remastered version. Jean-Luc Godard praised Bergman's early masterpieces as his most beautiful films. Adapted from the novel Marie, which Bergman wrote as a student, the film tells the story of a prima ballerina's bitter love affair in the past. The film uses flashbacks reminiscent of his later work "Wild Strawberries," and the main character, who reminisces in her diary, goes back and forth between the present and the past, and finally finds an answer for the future. The film is also a favorite of Bergman's, as it was the first time he was able to make a film entirely his own. The Scandinavian summer, captured freshly by the camera, is dazzling. --The film is about a ballerina, Marie, who is torn between continuing her career and marrying her boyfriend, David, a newspaper reporter. Then an old diary arrives. As she reads the diary, she recalls the summer she spent with her first love, Henrik, 13 years ago. Her love for Henrik seemed to last forever, but then he jumped off a cliff into the sea and died. Meanwhile, Erland, who loves Marie, hides Henrik's diary and courts Marie... Present. It was Erland who sent the diary, hoping for a reconciliation. Marie rejects him. As she waits for the stage, David appears before her and she hands Henrik's diary to David. After reading the diary, David kisses her and sends her off to the stage.
