 Description
Willis O'Brien forever!! The legendary special effects master (stop motion fx) was the father of all creature/special effects. Many of today's top special fx artists are known to be inspired and influenced by Ray Harryhausen, but Harryhausen himself was the protege and successor of Willis O'Brien, the man who made King Kong. Sure, we've got amazing CGI effects today, but who can beat the sheer ingenuity that made the 50-foot tall King Kong amble across the big screen nearly 70 years back when no similar film of this scope and magnitude existed! Like good musicians who go back to their roots (Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Elmore James...), filmmakers and audiences alike (especially if you're into creature features) should never forget the genre roots. I got so excited talking about Mr. O'Brien ("I'm not worthy!") that I forgot to mention what the film is about but I guess everybody knows who King Kong is. Oh, and let's not forget film history's first Screem Queen... Ms. Fay Wray!
