Kevin Morby
Description
[Machine Translation] American singer/songwriter Kevin Morby, formerly bassist for the folk rock band Woods and guitarist for The Babies, has released his fourth solo album! Recorded at Kevin's home studio in California, the album features Megan Duffy (G) and Justin Sullivan (Dr) from the rock band The Babies, of which Kevin himself is a member. The album was also co-produced by singer/songwriter/producer Richard Swift ( Tahiti 80, Foxygen, Tennis ) who, in addition to producing, played drums, percussion, organ, back chorus, piano, and bass. The work was inspired by their experiences in the big cities they visited on their U.S. tour. The opening track, "Come To Me Now," features the sound of an old organ from the 1800s. Kevin's deep, croaky voice echoes over this sound that transports the listener back to Manhattan in the 70's. The vocal part of the song is sung at night, and is accompanied by the melody of a man who has been living in the city since the early 70's. The vocal parts were recorded at night, and the result is a fresh, moody, California air and atmosphere, reminiscent of the tides of the Pacific Ocean lit by the twinkling stars in the sky. The album also includes a refreshing cover of "Caught in My Eye" by The Germs, an early LA punk band featuring Pat Smear of the Foo Fighters.
