Description
Woody Allen has made (and still makes) many excellent films, but for those of us who like his earlier, sillier, rougher-edged comedies best, "Bananas" is like a gigantic masterpiece, though technically and writing-wise inferior to Allen's more sophisticated later comedies. In it, a young nobody named Fielding Mellish (Allen) joins the rebels in a Latin American country named San Marcos and eventually becomes President of the country. If "Annie Hall" were to set new standard for romantic comedies, films like "Bananas" or "Sleeper" must have been a huge inspiration for filmmakers like John Landis and Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker.
