Description
Written and directed by Steven Soderbergh, "Solaris" is his first foray into science fiction. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Stanislaw Lem, which was previously made into a film by the legendary Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. Without losing the whole metaphysics presented by the original book and the Tarkovsky film, Soderbergh has reworked the great novel so that the story is easier to follow than the original film. Although the film features state-of-the-art special FX that are light-years ahead of the ones available thirty years ago when Tarkovsky adapted his version, Soderbergh's cleverly tempered screenplay gives more weight to the psychological drama rather than the technology or the visual eye candy. While Jim Cameron was involved as producer in the making of this movie, it's pretty much an all Steven Soderbergh film.
