Description
In the first film, opposite Charleton Heston (who makes a cameo appearance as an ape in Tim Burton's 2001 'reimagined' Apes film) who plays the human lead, the late Roddy McDowall gives a strong performance as Dr. Cornelius, the chimpanzee scientist. In fact McDowall gave such great performances in the series that he became sort of a spokesperson for the franchize, and hosted the 127-minute documentary that's included in the bonus disc in this set. Like Burton's new film, the 1968 classic was based on Pierre Boulle's novel, but Rod Serling (the Twilight Zone creator) who co-wrote the screenplay gave the film "thinking-man's sci-fi" qualities and layers and also one of the most shocking surprise endings ever filmed. The boxed set contains all 5 movies and the said bonus disc.
