¡The Rough Dancer And The Cyclical Night (Tango Apasionado)[SACD Hybrid]
¡Astor Piazzolla

 Description
[Machine Translation] A beautiful and dramatic concept album by Astor Piazzolla, the world-famous master of Nuevo Tango, left on American Clave and sold record-breaking numbers in Europe. Piazzolla wrote the music for Tango Apasionado (1987), an off-Broadway butoh musical based on two short stories by Argentine writer Horus Luis Borges, and directed and choreographed by Argentine dancer, choreographer, and director Graciela Daniele. The album was produced by Kip Hanrahan and Piazzolla himself, and was recorded in August/September 1987. The basic instrumentation is the same as the regular quintet, except for the alto saxophone/clarinet (played by Paquito Delibera), which is added on some tracks. The quintet is composed of the same musicians as the regular quintet. However, since the original violinist was unable to express himself tango style, a regular member of the quintet, Fernando Suarez Paz, took his place, and as a result, the quality of the performance was enhanced. The participation of Andy Gonzalez, one of the best contrabass players in the Latin jazz world, and the aforementioned Paquito added a unique color to Piazzolla's sound that cannot be found on other albums.
